The initiative contributes to the responsible management of plastic recyclables. Its objective is to raise awareness on the correct segregation of waste, as well as to schedule waste pick-ups and contribute to initiatives related to waste management organized in Poland.

Sorteusz – is an app that facilitates effective waste segregation. It is symbolized by a friendly chameleon that supports customers in achieving this. After scanning the barcode from a product or manually typing in a phrase, Sorteusz the chameleon returns with information on what to do with the waste or packaging.

In addition to this main functionality, you can also find a calendar in which the application will remind you of the date of collection of a particular waste fraction, addresses of the nearest waste collection centres, or educational materials explaining the still popular mistakes in dealing with waste.

• Waste collection calendar downloaded automatically (only for localities that have joined the project)
• Waste pickup calendar for easy self-addition (add container colour after holding the date in the calendar)
• PUSH notifications (after authorization) about the upcoming date of collection of a given waste fraction
• Database of Selective Municipal Waste Collection Points with the option of location and routing (after redirecting to Google Maps)
• Ability to participate in challenges independently and in teams (for registered users)
• Database about the municipal waste collection and management system in Poland
• Database on packaging, recycling, pro-environmental initiatives

The Sorteusz app is a tool for recycling waste, planning and scheduling waste pick-ups, educating on containers to use for waste segregation, sending notifications to the app users and keeping records of various related initiatives at national level. The solution has a positive impact on changing behaviors towards more aware citizens in relation to responsible management of recyclables, or waste in general.

The initiative supports the EU’s priorities on digital and green ambitions.

The Sorteusz app can be a good practice used in other regions or countries to support recycling plastic – how to do it. It can also be an idea for the development of other apps for monitoring green activities and the carbon footprint.
