Subtopic 2: Reuse
Re-use is an indispensable model for a functioning circular economy. Repairing, reusing and recycling protects our resources, helps avoid waste, and makes a significant contribution to climate protection. And it creates jobs, too.
Disposable beverage bottles or packaging can easily be used multiple times.
Large refills and concentrates (e.g. Sodastream) and tablets for cleaning products that are refilled with water at home not only save plastic packaging, but they also save energy during transport and help the climate and the environment twice.
Many companies also already offer their own re-fill programs: So you can get your coffee-to-go cheaper if you bring your own cup.
There are PET bottles that are reused as returnable bottles. These are refilled up to 25 times. Sharing reusable packaging designs across brands and value chains can enable distribution and logistics advantages. Deposit bottles can be returned and refilled more easily as a result. One example is the reusable universal bottle introduced for all Coca-Cola Brazil brands.
Creative solutions can also give plastic packaging a second (long) life. From pen holders or flowerpots to bird feeders, there is no limit to creativity.
