Unit 2: Reducing plastic – as much as you can!
Reducing plastic use is an important step towards protecting our environment and preserving natural resources. Here are some tips for cutting out plastic in different areas where you spend your time every day:
- At home: Choose products with minimal or easily recyclable packaging. Bring your own reusable bags when shopping, avoid single-use plastic products like straws, cutlery, and water bottles, and switch to reusable containers and bags for storing food.
- In the kitchen: Replace plastic wrap with beeswax wraps or reusable silicone covers. Use glass or metal containers for storing food instead of plastic containers. Buy food in bulk and store it in glass jars.
- In the bathroom: Choose personal care products that are packaged in cardboard, paper, or glass, instead of plastic. Switch to a bamboo toothbrush instead of a plastic one and use bar soap, instead of liquid soap in plastic bottles.
- On the go: Carry a reusable water bottle, coffee cup, and utensils with you. Refuse plastic bags and straws when dining out.
- In the garden: Use biodegradable alternatives to plastic mulch, like newspaper or cardboard. Choose non-plastic materials for garden tools, such as wooden or metal tools.
Remember, every small action counts in the fight against pollution from plastic. By making small changes in our daily lives, we can all make a difference in protecting the planet.
