Description of the Green Initiative

Target groups

Precious Plastic Vienna works with local partners, including environmentally conscious private individuals, restaurateurs and companies, on the prevention and reuse of plastic waste in Vienna. In addition to their local commitment in Vienna, they operate in the global, constantly growing, on- and offline connected Precious Plastic community, which consists of hundreds of initiatives on all continents of the world.

Objectives

The common goal is to find answers to the global problem of plastic pollution and waste as well as practical solutions. Precious Plastic Vienna does not want to wait for measures "from above", but they want to experiment with new possibilities and develop new solutions on their own initiative and creatively in cooperation with like-minded actors in the local and European framework.

Description

Precious Plastic Vienna sees plastic as a valuable resource with many positive properties, which is still mainly seen as a (versatile) disposable material. Both processing and recycling are only accessible to the general public to a limited extent. That is why the association collects, sorts, cleans and processes plastic by type with specially designed machines and research meaningful areas of application for the recycled raw material. In this way, they want to make the raw material plastic accessible to a wider public and take a critical look at the material that influences all of our lives.

Impact

Precious Plastic Vienna is committed to the idea of open source, or open design and the DIT (do it together) – as such, they develop and improve with the global community machines for self-assembly and share the construction plans and experiences with all interested parties via a forum and various other channels. They do not want to wait for measures "from above", but to experiment with new possibilities and develop new solutions on their own initiative and creatively in cooperation with like-minded actors in the local and European framework.
