Objectives

The umbrella organization Zero Waste Germany e. V. addresses potential for improvement in the area of the circular economy and promotes dialogue between civil society, business enterprises and politics.

Description

Zero Waste Germany is a national network of communities, organisations, local leaders, experts, and change agents working towards the elimination of waste in our society. They organize public events and debates with political representatives as well as similar exchange formats. They also regularly issue statements on draft legislation in the environmental sector, e.g. on waste exports or projects in the field of the circular economy. The organization, which has now grown into a movement in Europe and around the world, advocates for sustainable systems and a redesign of our relationship with resources to accelerate a just transition to zero waste for the benefit of the people and the planet.

Impact

Place the interests of people and the general public at the center of legislation and other political decisions on waste and environmental policy. In order to create the appropriate framework conditions, we are in constant exchange with citizens and representatives of science, the media, business and politics.

Innovative elements

The organization’s scope has expanded considerably in the last few years: from product design to reusability to end-of-pipe waste management solutions, from phasing out plastic production to waste trading and municipal zero-waste strategies.

Transferability

In less than 10 years, the crazy idea of a group of grassroots activists from all over Europe has become mainstream. Anyone can join the organization and carry its activities and ideas into the world.
